Splints

We're facing our first operation in two weeks time and are just a tad nervous (of course). One thing that really concerns me are the dreaded splints - what are everyone's experiences with these things? Has anyone here been in a situation where splints weren't used?

not a problem for us.
Hi Christina,
splints weren't a problem for us as we didn't use them. That's right, no splints both after the lip and the palate op. Our surgeon's stance on splints was that the baby would touch the spot just once and that would be enough for him to not do it again. Sounds tough but like I said, we had no problem whatsoever and frankly the thought of our boy stuck in those things freaked us out. Not sure whether your surgeon would go along with it but I guess it's worth a try.
